I picked up a Motorola i425t to try to get a more accurate track with Instamapper. To try it out, I took my standard short loop around the East Bay. Unfortunately, I ran into some problems. There isn’t much cell service out there, and the Instamapper app will only cache 100 positions if it can’t connect to the cellular network. That gives me about 10 minutes of riding before my trail starts disappearing. The i425 isn’t too good at reconnecting when it is back in range, either. As a result, I got this:
GPS tracking powered by InstaMapper.com
Instead of something more like this:
Obviously, a number of our rides will take us out of cell range. It might be that I just need to turn down how often it saves a marker, buying myself more time but less accuracy. I’ll just have to play it by ear a bit.
