We took a social ride to Port costa today. After breakfast at Urban Bread, nine bikes headed out toward Tilden Park. The ride is one of my favorites, and it was as good as ever. Good weather, good roads, and nobody got lost.
We met up with Chuck and Tegan at The Warehouse, and had some lunch. Around 1:00, about seven of us rode out together. We chose to slab it back to SF on the 80. When we got to Richmond, I saw a CHP cruiser pull onto the highway just ahead of us. We slowed down to a perfectly reasonable speed, and he pulled along side. Over the loudspeaker, he told me to pull over at the Cutting Boulevard exit. As far as I know, only one person in the group did exactly what you should do when that happens. Leave. One person (me) gets pulled over, and everyone else continues on down the road. Slim gave me a wave and took off. As the rest of us pulled over, we saw an accident at the bottom of the offramp. One car had flipped over, and the intersection was blocked by emergency folks and their vehicles. We pulled onto the shoulder, and the trooper came up to me. He explained that he had pulled us over for wearing colors, and asked me some questions about the club.
Now those of you who say it was bullshit are right. But seeing as how we had just left a bar, and I wasn’t interested in getting (perhaps bogus) speeding tickets for me and five friends, I was very polite and brief. He let us go after a few questions, and we made our way back to the highway. On the way home, there was another accident with a flipped-over car, but we all made it home safe.

Cool site Mr. Roadcaptian … We met a guy from the Northstars M/C in Death Valley, and they have a clearly stated club policy about how to deal with a cop who trys to pull them over as a group. They call it “bury the dead and bayonette the wounded” or somthing. Anyway, one guy pulls over the rest run. So there you go. Love the site … keep up the good work! — John A.
Tucker, this site is really nice and now on my fav. list thanks for the time and effort. Lookin’ forward to this years rides. But bayonetteing the wounded and leaving the dead is against my inclanation and my experience, it’s just too french for my taste. But as its just a matter of points “say la vie” Nice go ,Santa
